On covering arrests
I'm Anika Myers Palm.
If you find yourself as a crime reporter, it's a good idea to develop relationships with law enforcement officers.
You'll find yourself on a first name basis with police officers, with sheriff's deputies, with even FBI agents.
You will absolutely want to talk to them. Not only can they let you know who's been arrested and why, but they can also give you off-the-record information that will help you track down more people or information for your story.
So, yes, stay on law-enforcement officers' good sides, because they're often your best sources!
